Following Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League triumph on Saturday, the two teams competing for this season’s UEFA Super Cup have now been confirmed.
Luis Enrique’s record-breakers will meet Tottenham Hotspur after Ange Postecoglou kept his promise of second-season silverware as Spurs lifted the Europa League in Bilbao with victory over Manchester United.
PSG dismantled Inter Milan in Munich, running out 5-0 victors – the biggest final winning margin in the history of the competition – courtesy of a star-turn from Desire Doue, who bagged a brace, as well as goals from Achraf Hakimi, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu.
Spurs booked their place in the Super Cup after Brennan Johnson’s scrappy goal secured a narrow 1-0 win over United to end a 17-year wait for a major trophy.

What is the UEFA Super Cup?
The UEFA Super Cup is a one-off game that marks the official beginning of the European football season by pitting the previous season’s Champions League winners against the Europa League champions.
The brainchild of Dutch reporter and newspaper editor, Anton Witkamp, the competition officially began in 1973, under its original name, the Super Competition – and later the European Super Cup – before being renamed the UEFA Super Cup in 1995.
The 1972 final between Ajax and Rangers is considered unofficial by UEFA due to the fact the Scottish club were banned from European competition because of fan trouble during the 1972 European Cup Winners’ Cup final.
As a result, UEFA refused to endorse the competition until the following season, where Ajax beat Rangers 6–3 on aggregate over two legs.
The first Super Cup officially recognised and supported by European football governing body was in 1973, again won by Ajax, who defeated AC Milan 6–1 on aggregate.
Real Madrid are the current holders and are also the competition’s most successful club with six titles.
No French team has ever won the Super Cup, although this will be PSG’s second appearance after they lost the 1996 edition to Juventus.
It will be a first time in the Super Cup for Spurs, meaning whatever the outcome there will be a new name on the trophy this year.
Super Cup: Date, kickoff time
The 2025 UEFA Super Cup will take place on Wednesday, August 13, with kick-off at 20:00 (UK time).
If the scores are level after 90 minutes, there will be no extra-time and so the clash will be decided by a penalty shootout.
The timings will be far from ideal for Spurs with the 2025-26 Premier League season getting underway just two days later.

The Super Cup will take place in Udine’s Stadio Friuli, the home of Italian top-flight side Udinese.
The stadium has a capacity of 25,144.
