Teddi Mellencamp is in good spirits as her cancer journey continues.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at An Unforgettable Evening Benefiting the Women’s Cancer Research Fund in Beverly Hills on Monday, April 28, the TV personality, 43, gave an update on her health after revealing in February that her melanoma had spread to her lungs and brain.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” she says. “I mean, today is day five post immunotherapy, so it’s day four. And five are always the hardest.”
“You know, when people come up to me and they’re like, ‘You’re so strong, you did this.’ I’m like, half the time I’m strong, and half the time I’m crying and sad,” Mellencamp says.

“[But, at the moment] I feel good,” she adds. “What I’ve learned is that I have amazing kids. I already knew that, but I also have amazing friends and like a support system that’s there for me, and I think that’s huge.”
The mother of three, who shares daughter Slate, 12, son Cruz, 10, and daughter Dave, 5, with her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, adds that she wasn’t sure if she would be well enough to attend the event, where she appeared with her bald head for the first time.
“There was a moment where I was like, ‘am I going to be able to come?’, because you start to get a little tongue twisted. And I was like, ‘I don’t know’.”
Mellencamp tells PEOPLE that she hopes the end is in sight for her current round of treatment. “We did a double dose five days ago and then I have another set next Wednesday. And then I hope, hopefully I’m done.”
“It’s a continuation,” she adds of her treatment. “So at first I was doing radiation and immunotherapy, but immunotherapy ended up being the thing that worked for me.”

Monday evening’s gala marked Mellencamp’s first formal event since she revealed in February that her cancer had spread. That same month, she shaved her head ahead of surgeons attempting to remove tumors on her brain.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum revealed earlier this month that her treatment was progressing positively, adding that all her tumors had “shrunk or disappeared.”
She told her 1.2 million Instagram followers that after her two remaining sessions of immunotherapy, she was hoping to be “Done and…cancer-free.”
