Ange Postecoglou has blamed “unusual” individual errors for Spurs’ 4-2 defeat at Wolves and branded their Europa League decider against Eintracht Frankfurt “massive”.
Rayan Ait-Nouri put Wolves ahead after two minutes after Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s punched clearance, followed by a farcical own goal when Vicario’s save from Marshall Munetsi’s header hit defender Djed Spence and went in.
Cristian Romero’s mistake allowed Ait-Nouri to cross for Jorgen Strand Larsen to net and Matheus Cunha scored the hosts’ fourth after Lucas Bergvall lost possession, although Spurs twice reduced the deficit to two goals, Mathys Tel and Richarlison replying for Postecoglou’s side.
“For the most part we controlled large parts of [the game], were a threat going forward and didn’t give them too much,” rued Postecoglou. “We conceded some pretty poor goals and that made it awfully difficult to get an outcome.”

Wolves vs Tottenham: Bergvall, Romero ‘fantastic’
The Australian said he has “100% confidence” in Vicario for the trip to Frankfurt on Thursday (20:00 BST), with the tie poised at 1-1 against the third-placed team in the Bundesliga.
Spurs have little to play for domestically after a 17th league defeat of the season, with only the bottom three losing more games.
“We made some individual errors today, which was a bit unusual for us, fair to say,” said Postecoglou. “They all happened in one game and unfortunately we got punished for it.

“It’s not like the players are doing it on purpose… those are the unfortunate things that sometimes happen in a game of football.
“I’d probably be more frustrated if it was something that we did from a tactical or organisational perspective, but they’re individual errors.
“Lucas and Romero are two fantastic footballers. What’s important now for both of them is that they recover and we focus on the next game.”

Frankfurt vs Tottenham ‘massive’
“[The players] shouldn’t be in a bad headspace,” added Postecoglou. “The game on Thursday is massive for us. I thought we played well [in the first leg] and probably should have got a win out of that game.
“We know that when we play our football like we did on [that occasion], we can certainly make an impact. We rested a few today, which I think will help us come Thursday, as well.”

Tottenham made wholesale changes to their starting line-up at Molineux with a crucial game in their campaign around the corner.
Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and Son Heung-min were replaced in their starting line-up by Djed Spence, Archie Gray, Ben Davies, Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr and Tel.
“Sonny got a knock on his foot so we’re being a bit cautious with him,” Postecoglou explained of the South Korea superstar’s absence.
