Midtable Auxerre took a shock first-half lead at champions Paris Saint-Germain in the final round of Ligue 1 games this season on Saturday before Nuno Mendes curled a sublime free-kick against the woodwork as the Champions League finalists threatened a swift equaliser.
PSG top scorer Ousmane Dembele was denied by goalkeeper Donovan Leon in an early one-on-one before Gaetan Perrin slipped Lassine Sinayoko in on goal with a low pass through the centre to score the 30th-minute opener.
Mali forward Sinayoko spun at speed and produced a clinical left-footed finish, rolling the ball under Gianluigi Donnarumma from just inside the box to put Auxerre on course for a third win in four away games.
Nuno Mendes almost replied in sublime fashion shortly afterwards, bending a beautiful left-footed effort against the near post from a considerable distance out on the left at the Parc des Princes, where PSG suffered their first top-flight defeat of the season to Nice in their last home league game on April 25.

PSG vs Auxerre
With the title secured on April 19, PSG’s domestic form has perhaps predictably dipped as their focus intensifies on a first Champions League title.
Their three-game winless league run after sealing top spot included that defeat to Nice and a 2-1 defeat at Champions League qualification hopefuls Strasbourg.
Luis Enrique’s side recovered to win 4-1 at Montpellier on May 10, three days after their 2-1 home win over Arsenal to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory in the Champions League semi-finals.
Auxerre scored with their only shot on target of the first half, while PSG had two accurate attempts and finished the period on an expected goals tally of 0.69 to their opponents’ 0.39.
Les Ajaistes, who won Ligue 2 last season, are guaranteed to finish 10th if they beat a PSG side against whom they drew 0-0 at home on December 6.
PSG face Reims in the French Cup final at the Stade de France next Saturday (20:00 BST).

This season’s game will provide the last of the finals in the major European club competitions on Saturday, May 31. Kick-off is at 20:00 BST.
Each of the last six finals have been tight encounters, with four settled by a goal and neither of the other two featuring more than one goal before the 83rd minute.
Madrid have won six of the last 11 finals, with Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City victorious once each to interrupt Los Blancos’ supremacy during that period.
