Semenyo’s early goal the difference at Dean Court

Semenyo’s early goal the difference at Dean Court

Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo socred after just 53 seconds as the Cherries leapt above Fulham into eighth place in the Premier League.

Semenyo took advantage of a rare mistake from Fulham’s prized left-back Antonee Robinson to surge in on goal before burying a lovely low shot past Bernd Leno.

The fine finish was the ninth goal scored in the opening minute of the Premier League season so far – with 10 being the record in 2022-23.

Evanilson then hit the crossbar with a golden chance as the hosts bossed the first half.

But the tables were turned after the break, Fulham seeing nearly 70% of the ball without success as Marco Silva’s side failed to truly test Kepa in the Bournemouth net.

Both sides have enjoyeed good seasons and have 48 points each with six matches to play.

There is a six-point gap to Aston Villa in seventh, but only seven points to Manchester City in fifth which would bring Champions League football next season, so both sides remain in the hunt for European football next term.

Bournemouth had gone nine games without a win, and had not won at home since January, so Semenyo’s decisive strike was as crucial as it was early.

The Cherries have never reached 49 points in the Premier League so are on the cusp of an historic haul.
