- Nicki Minaj attended her eighth Met Gala in a pinstripe suit dress — a common thread among this year’s attendees
- Her dress by Thom Browne boasted a cascade of ruffled flowers down her right shoulder
- The singer attended the Met Gala last year for the “Garden of Time” theme
Nicki Minaj is turning the 2025 Met Gala into her very own “Barbie World.”
The rapper, 42, stepped out in style at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a form-fitting Thom Browne dress on Monday, May 5, per Vogue, as part of the annual fashion-forward benefit. Her pinstripe suit-dress — a common thread between this year’s attendees — featured a wide neckline and bold white stripes, and a mermaid skirt with a thinner pinstripe pattern. A collection of ruffled flowers cascaded over her right shoulder and down her back.
Minaj piled her hair high in a curly updo and included a gold headpiece to complete the look. She added a pop of color with her bright blue nails, keeping her glam simple with a warm, smoky eye and nude lip.

In October, Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour as co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala, as well as LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code this year is “Tailored for You.” It’s a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The host committee this year includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese, Doechii and Usher.

Minaj is no stranger to the Met’s steps, as her latest outing marked the MC’s eighth appearance at the event.
Before Monday, she last attended the event just a year prior, when she channeled 2024’s “Garden of Time” theme with a custom design from Marni by Franceso Risso — featuring a vibrant yellow sculpted fit-and-flare minidress featuring some colorful 3D flowers.
The look also featured a few oversized blooms, as she accessorized with a yellow chain-strap back, a matching pointy-toe heels, and, of course, some press-ons from Pink Friday Nails.
Minaj’s latest look comes 12 years after her very first Met Gala appearance, when she wore a navy blue Tommy Hilfiger gown with red lipstick in 2013 to coincide with the night’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” theme.

In the years to follow, the rapper has stepped out in custom Moschino in 2016, a duchesse satin kimono top in 2017, a deep-red Oscar de la Renta gown in 2018, a Prabal Gurung dress in 2019 and a feathered Burberry gown in 2022.
Minaj notably launched her Pink Friday Nails brand in March 2024, with longtime nail artist and Pink Friday Nails collaborator Yvett G telling PEOPLE that most of the inspiration “comes from Nicki herself.”
“Whenever I’ve worked with her, she gives me a little bit of creative freedom,” Yvett said. “She’ll give me a little bit of a mood board of, ‘This is the look, I need you to do this gold thing, whatever.’ So when we started with the brand, she was like, ‘I need it to be inspired by things that we’ve already done, because I want my fans, my Barbz, to have a little bit of me.'”
