Match preview for Newcastle v Everton
Newcastle host Everton at St James’ Park this Sunday as the Magpies chase Champions League football.
Eddie Howe’s side know that victory on the final day would secure their place in next season’s competition, but any stumble could see them slip out of the coveted top five.
Newcastle are well positioned, having put together an impressive run of six straight home wins in the league.
Their last final-day clash against Everton, didn’t go to plan. Back in the 2011-12 season, they needed a win at Goodison Park to sneak into the top four, only to be beaten 3-1 by David Moyes’ Toffees.
Everton have fared poorly at St James’ Park in recent seasons, taking just one point from their last four trips. However, they did manage to secure a point on their most recent visit, holding Newcastle to a draw thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late penalty.
While there’s no threat of relegation for the visitors, Everton have the chance to finish the campaign with three consecutive wins – a feat they haven’t achieved since the 1980s.

Team news for Newcastle v Everton
Alexander Isak sat out the loss to Arsenal due to muscle stiffness, but Howe is hopeful he will be fit to start in this crucial game. If not, Callum Wilson, who has a strong scoring record against Everton, is likely to step in.
Kieran Trippier is a doubt as he recovers from a calf strain, while Lewis Hall, Joelinton and Matt Targett remain sidelined.
For Everton, Jarrad Branthwaite’s hamstring problem rules him out, as does James Tarkowski, meaning Michael Keane will likely continue in defence.
Captain Seamus Coleman’s injury has ended his season, and there’s no place for loan players Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala.
