Wojciech Szczesny is pondering whether to sign a new, two-year deal at Barcelona but says the final decision will be left to his wife.
Szczesny retired after Euro 2024 last summer to spend more time with his family but was persuaded to sign a one-year deal with Barca in October after regular number one Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury.
He quickly established himself as first choice for coach Hansi Flick and has been outstanding in Barcelona’s domination of domestic competitions.
Barca have already claimed the Copa del Rey and yesterday established a seven-point lead at the top of La Liga with a 4-3 win over Real Madrid in an absorbing Clasico.
When a player like Szczęsny gets emotional, you know it’s more than football. It’s love for the badge ❤️

Szczesny to take his time to ponder Barca deal
After the game, the Pole confirmed he has been offered a new deal but would take his time before committing.
He told Canal+ Poland: “I owe it to my wife to decide this together and we haven’t done it yet. Most decisions are made by my wife, and I’m not ashamed of it at all.
“I usually make the football ones, but it’s a very unusual situation, as we were determined to come here for a year to try to achieve our dreams and then return to playing golf.
“I’ll decide in the coming weeks. There are also the logistical aspects of studies, moving, etc. For now, I’m enjoying what’s happened and not wondering whether I’ll stay here or not.”
Szczesny has not only produced on the field but Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo report he has had a hugely positive impact on the club’s young players.
With Ter Stegen now fit, Barca’s plan is to reintegrate him into the starting XI next season and have 35-year-old Szczesny as back-up.
