Abbie Herbert‘s daughter Poppy James puts a lot of time and effort into being a particularly creative toddler.
The influencer took to TikTok on Saturday, April 19, to share her daughter’s dedication to coloring, asking her followers whether or not they thought Poppy’s behavior was typical.
“Can someone tell me if this is normal for a 3-year-old to draw like this? She draws and colors five or more hours a day,” a voiceover said, playing with a clip of the toddler scribbling on a piece of paper. Her artwork showed “a cheetah-print flower growing in the sun,” the narration explained.
In her caption, the proud mom elaborated and noted that Poppy — whom Herbert shares with husband Josh — has “been doing this since she was 1.”
Fans and followers were quick to respond; many applauded the content creator for allowing her daughter such creative freedom, while others pointed how that Poppy was clearly creatively advanced for her age.
“She’s got great fine motor skills for 3,” one person commented. Another looked toward a bright future for the kid: “She’s 100% either gonna be a great artist or a architect,” someone wrote to Herbert, who is also mom to 2-year-old Jagger.
One commenter identified herself as an art teacher and wrote, “Her actual drawing style is age appropriate but it’s her ideas that are unique and being developed. She is probably a visual learner and is doing a lot of processing and critical thinking this way.”

Some TikTok users expressed concerns about the amount of time the budding artist was spending time coloring. Still, between those speculating Poppy might have a “hyperfixation,” others noted that it’s normal for children to fully immerse themselves in activities.
“My [3-year-old] son builds, digs, and plays with trucks for that long each day,” reads one comment. “When a [3-year-old] has an interest, it’s not strange for them to be obsessed with it.”
