Brooklyn Beckham Shares Rare Comment About Dad David Beckham amid Family ‘Tensions’ Rumors

Brooklyn Beckham is crediting his father with sparking his love of racing — amid reports of “tension” in the Beckham family.

The 26-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham spoke with The Sunday Times for an interview published on Saturday, May 10, but conducted in early March, about his experience at the Formula E Evo Sessions in Miami at the Miami International Autodrome.

As Brooklyn explained, his father helped inspire his love of racing when he was “very young.”

“It’s something that me and my dad bonded over. My dad’s had some pretty cool cars,” Brooklyn told the outlet, adding that he collects them with his favorite being a “1954 Jaguar, which I very rarely drive, only when the weather’s perfect.”

Brooklyn notably drove the Jaguar I-TYPE 7 for the first time on March 5 during the electric race car event, previously sharing that he “jumped at the chance” to “get behind the wheel.”

Brooklyn’s latest remark about his dad comes days after a source told PEOPLE that he and his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham have a strained relationship with David and Victoria, 51, and there have been “tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and the family.”

“The relationship is definitely not beyond repair,” the insider said. “They love and are always there for him. They’re just hurt and disappointed that he’s now playing no part in family life.”

PEOPLE previously learned that the couple was not in attendance at David’s star-studded 50th birthday party in early May, while Brooklyn’s siblings Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, helped ring in the milestone. (Others in attendance included Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Gordon Ramsay.)

Victoria and David also shared photos from what appeared to be a more intimate celebration that Brooklyn was not in attendance at, with Victoria writing in a caption: “Creating special memories with family and friends. We love you all ❤️.”

Brooklyn and Nicola — who wed on April 9, 2022 — celebrated their third wedding anniversary last month, with both sharing touching Instagram tributes, and Brooklyn sending his wife a large bouquet of assorted pink roses.

“Happy 3 year anniversary baby x,” he captioned a post of wedding photos. “I love you with all my heart x I’m so lucky I get to spend everyday with you and wake up to your beautiful face everyday you are my world x I love you so much Nicola xxxxxxx ❤️.”

Nicola also shared a few wedding snaps and posted a similar sentiment to Instagram. “I can’t believe it’s been three years since this day – i love you with all my heart and promise to always have your back,” she wrote. “I can’t wait for forever with you 🤍 thank you for being the most incredible husband i could ever dream of. i love you a million times over.”
