Line-ups confirmed as Muller starts with Bayern looking to turn tie around

Thomas Muller starts for Bayern to move joint-third on the all-time Champions League appearance list as the Bundesliga leaders travel to the Serie A table-toppers with a place in the Champions League semi-final up for grabs.

Muller joins Lionel Messi on 163 games in Europe’s elite club competition, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (183) and Iker Casillas (177).

The tie is delicately poised at 2-1 in favour of Inter, following Davide Frattesi’s late goal at the Allianz Arena last week.

And while the hosts boast the best defensive record in the competition this season having conceded just three goals in 11 games – the second lowest tally in the competition’s history behind city rivals AC Milan – Bayern have firepower in abundance with the likes of Harry Kane, Leroy Sane and Michael Olise.

The hosts have a narrow advantage in what promises to be a memorable encounter between two of European football’s heavyweights.

Inter team news

February 16 was the last time Simone Inzaghi’s side tasted defeat and his side will be full of confidence going into this clash with a marginal advantage.

The beaten finalists from 2023 are rarely breached and Inzaghi opts for another strong defensive unit marshalled by Benjamin Pavard, Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni.

Hakan Calhanoglu carries the creative spark in midfield, while Marcus Thuram and captain Lautaro Martinez lead the line in attack.

Bayern team news

Vincent Kompany will be counting on the vast experience of Muller to get his side over the line at the San Siro.

Bayern are on course to reclaim the domestic crown from Leverkusen but it will be on their Champions League showing that Kompany will ultimately be judged.

Prior to the defeat last week, Bayern had not lost since January and they will be looking to get back on track this evening.

Kane will be the obvious goal threat, in front of Muller, Olise and Sane, with Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich behind them.
