Prince Harry Sports Scrubs to Watch Operation on Ukraine Trip

Prince Harry suited up in scrubs to watch a surgery at a center caring for victims of war while visiting Ukraine with a delegation from his Invictus Games Foundation.

On April 11, the Superhumans Center in Lviv, Ukraine posted an Instagram video of Prince Harry recapping the impact his visit there had on him, including viewing a surgery. The Duke of Sussex and founding patron of the Invictus Games visited the state-of-the-art medical center last week to see the leading support and rehabilitation services being provided in a country actively experiencing war. 

“It’s my first visit to Ukraine, and it certainly won’t be the last. It was an absolute honor and a privilege to be able to travel here with an Invictus delegation and to come here to the Superhumans Center and see what absolutely mind-blowing care and rehabilitation that is provided here under this purpose-built roof,” Prince Harry said in the video, which showed footage of him arriving at the care center, looking at different prosthetics and meeting people. 

The camera cut to Harry, 40, wearing black scrubs and PPE to watch surgery in an operating theater. 

“It’s astonishing. And to see the surgeons right inside the eardrum, trying to help as many people as possible,” he said, referring to the procedure.

The Duke of Sussex, a former British Army captain who deployed twice to Afghanistan, elsewhere mentioned in a speech during the stop, “I have been to many rehabilitation centers, but there is no rehabilitation center in the world that feels like this.”

The Superhumans Center uniquely offers reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, prosthetics and psychological support free of charge to military personnel and civilians affected by the conflict on a mission to restore functionality and enhance quality of life.

“I want to remind Ukraine that the world stands with them, and Invictus will be a partner with Ukraine and with this Ukrainian Invictus team for as long as needed,” Prince Harry said as the video closed. “We love the partnership.”

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games international adaptive sports tournament for wounded veterans in 2014 as a means of healing and visited the medical center with representatives from the Invictus Games Foundation, including four veterans who have also experienced life-changing injuries and recovery similar to those going through rehabilitation there. The Duke of Sussex visited at the invitation of Olga Rudneva, CEO of the Superhumans Center, and posed for a group photo with patients and medical professionals as the video closed.

Harry traveled to Ukraine after appearing at a two-day court hearing in the U.K. as he fights for increased police protection.

His wife, Meghan Markle, later revealed that he brought a little something special home for their family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are raising their kids Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, in her home state of California, and she said that he brought home a treat that looked like cake.
