Miley Cyrus Dropped ‘Prelude,’ the First Song from Her New Album

Miley Cyrus has unleashed the first taste of her forthcoming visual album Something Beautiful!

The 32-year-old “Flowers” hitmaker is gearing up to drop the project — her first album since 2023’s Endless Summer Vacation — on May 30. And she surprised fans on Monday, March 31 with a little taster, the song “Prelude.”

Eerie and otherworldly, the introductory track finds Cyrus speaking over a mysterious production.

“Like walking alone through a lucid dream / Like saying your name aloud in an empty room / Like witnessing my body standing in a mirror / Aching to be seen, aching to become real / But the beauty one finds alone / Is a prayer that longs to be shared,” Cyrus says as the music evolves.

In the accompanying visual, she wears archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture. If it looks familiar, that’s because she also wore the ethereal outfit for the album’s cover art.

Cyrus directed the video alongside Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter. Meanwhile, Benoît Debie managed the cinematography.

Something Beautiful will feature 13 original songs, and Cyrus executive produced the album alongside Shawn Everett. It has been described as “bold” with a focus on “visual storytelling.”

It comes following the major critical acclaim that she received for Endless Summer Vacation.

Cyrus won her very first Grammy in February 2024 in the best pop solo performance category. The win was for her song “Flowers,” off Endless Summer Vacation. She picked up her second win at the prestigious awards show in 2025 when she and Beyoncé won in the best country duo/group performance category.

Meanwhile, Cyrus has recently opened up about one of her more controversial onstage moments.

While in conversation with her sister Brandi Cyrus for Spotify’s Billions Club series in November, the singer recalled how her performance of “Party in the U.S.A.” at the Teen Choice Awards in 2009 — when she infamously danced on stage with a pole attached to an ice cream cart — came to be.

“This is going to be no surprise to you. Do you know whose idea that was?” Miley asked Brandi, 37, who then guessed that their mom, Tish Cyrus, was responsible.

As Miley confirmed this was the case, stating, “Yup, that was my mom’s idea. So she always lets me take the blame,” she continued, “When I got in trouble the next day, you know who was nowhere to be found? Tish Cyrus.”
