John Mulaney is opening up about his intimate wedding to Olivia Munn.
The 42-year-old comedian shared a few memorable details from what he described as their “very simple ceremony” during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, March 12 — including the fact that Munn’s The Newsroom costar Sam Waterston officiated the ceremony.
“… [He] once said to Olivia if you ever get married, I’ll perform the ceremony,” Mulaney said.
“He did? Why did he say that?,” Kimmel asked, to which Mulaney responded, “I think it was chit chat. But you take people up on what they offer…”
However, that wasn’t the only memorable thing about their wedding. Mulaney revealed that his and Munn’s son Malcolm Hiệp, 3, couldn’t help but steal the show right in the middle of the ceremony.
“He was a 2-year-old at our wedding in a little tuxedo and shorts,” Mulaney recalled. “And he didn’t ask at any point, ‘Oh, you two aren’t married yet?,’ which was nice and polite of him.”
“And he actually went to the bathroom in his diaper during it and announced it mid-vows,” he added. “Yeah, a very sweaty, little 2-year-old in a tuxedo just went, ‘I’m pooping.’ ”

“I like that he announced it while it was happening and not before or after that,” Kimmel joked.
“Well, it’s really an in-the-moment kind of declaration,” Mulaney jested back.
PEOPLE previously confirmed the couple got married over the Fourth of July weekend in 2024 in their friend’s home in New York. Only their son and a witness were in attendance for the simple, intimate ceremony, a source told PEOPLE at the time.
A few months later, in September, the couple welcomed their second child, daughter Méi June Mulaney, via surrogate, with Munn sharing the news on Instagram alongside a photo of her and Mulaney sitting together as she held their newborn baby.

The Saturday Night Live alum was asked on Late Night with Seth Meyers in August 2024 about how it felt finally getting to marry Munn, to which he responded, “This is the single greatest time in my life.”
He added that tying the knot with Munn, 44, was “one of the most fun things I’ve ever done,” before opening up about his in-laws, including Munn’s mother, Kim Schmid, who was in the audience at the time.
“I’ve been in a lot of interesting situations. Marrying into a large Vietnamese family is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done,” he continued with a jokingly dry delivery, prompting laughs from the audience. “But they’re the best, man.”
