An enthusiastic woman is already assigning roles for her daughter-in-law’s first birth — and she’s designated herself “Grandma CEO.”
In a post on Reddit’s r/AmIOverreacting forum, the soon-to-be mom, who is seven months pregnant, shares that her mother-in-law’s “strong personality” has been taken to a “new level” as they await the arrival of her little one.
Not only does the mother-in-law insist on being a part of every single doctor’s appointment the mom-to-be attends, but she also texts daily “tips from motherhood,” despite her last child being born in 1989.

The mother-in-law’s most recent offense was adding herself to a group chat designated for birth planning, which consisted of the pregnant poster, her husband and her doula.
“Her first message? ‘Excited to support this sacred arrival. Grandma CEO checking in! Let’s make this birth a 10/10 experience,'” the poster writes of the initial text message. “She then listed ‘roles’ she wants: logistics coordinator, nurse liaison, baby name consultant, and ‘energy protector.’ ”
Thinking the initial text was just a joke, the Reddit user responded with a similar energy, replying with a laughing emoji and adding, “‘You forgot catering director!’ ”
“She didn’t respond for a day, then sent a long text saying she was ‘deeply hurt’ by my dismissive attitude and that she expected more ‘respect for her generational wisdom,’ ” the poster writes.
Though her husband is firmly in agreement that his mother is being “ridiculous,” that hasn’t stopped the self-appointed “Grandma CEO” from telling the extended family that she “mocked her role as a grandmother.”
“Am I overreacting by being annoyed or was the nickname just too much?” the poster pleads with readers.
However, Reddit users were firmly on the expectant mom’s side, noting that her mother-in-law’s insistence on being included in the birth plans is steamrolling her wishes.
“All these fancy name/roles she gave herself is basically her way of hijacking your experience,” one Reddit user comments in response.
“At this point you’re just the incubator while she’s calling dibs on making the final decision for EVERYTHING. Please kick this woman out the group chat between you, your husband and doula.”
